One of the key principles underlying the National Health Service is that it aspires to ‘put patients at the heart of everything it does’.(1) This aim is reflected by the Society in its Patients and Relatives Committee. The Committee provides an influential forum for patient centred discussion on issues pertaining to intensive care, and it advises external bodies as well as the Society itself.
External bodies frequently seek patient input and contact the Society when they relate to critical care. NICE reviews, research protocols and specialist literature are enhanced by the expertise that only someone who has experienced intensive care first hand can provide.
To this end the Society is seeking three new members for its Patients and Relatives Committee. We would be grateful if members could recommend patients who may be interested in such a role. They should contact the Secretariat at firstname.lastname@example.org who will put them in touch with the Chair of the committee.
The committee meets in London four times a year. Reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed.
